The Mechelse Heide is an absolute must do for those who want to explore Maasmechelen by bike. It’s the perfect starting points too because there is a large car park at the Mechelse Heide gateway, where you can park your car, take off your bikes of your car’s racks, and start your tour right in the middle of nature. This route of about 35 km takes you through the Mechelse Heide to the As railway station. The As station played a central role in coal mining in this region for many years. Head on into the national park a little further and climb the 31-metre observation tower for a panoramic view of the park. You’ll also pass Lieteberg and cycle through a picturesque heath landscape.
