A predominantly flat cycling route through shady pine forests, purple heather landscapes, and right across the country’s only national park, the Hoge Kempen National Park. Start in Maasmechelen, where you are immediately sent on winding paths through dense forests, grasslands, and gravel-pit ponds. That’s how you end up on the Mechelse Heide when you cycle the Cycling through Heathland route. We promise you a beautiful expanse of heathland and a bicycle bridge from which you can look out over the countryside. A little further on, you will find the As railway station, with the old tracks and train carriages. Tranquilly pedal down the former coal track to Maaseik and Dilsen-Stokkem.
