Garden District

Welcome to Eisden Tuinwijk, where history is inextricably linked with the present day. The mining industry of times past had a major impact on our municipality. Of the industrial complex numbering 56 buildings, only the main building, warehouses, mine shaft towers and bathhouse façade still remain. These were restored and given a new purpose. The former residential areas, where miners and their families once dwelled, still partly retain their original appearance.

Beside the Meuse river

The wildest part of the Meuse river in the RivierPark Maasvallei is to be found in Maasmechelen, more specifically in the Maaswinkel natural area. This is also the ideal spot for a picnic, or a break at the Zomerbar (Summer Bar). Enjoy the magnificent view over the babbling border-area of the Meuse

River, wild grazing animals, herons, flora and fauna.

Cycling between the Mine Terrils

Hidden in the greenery, where a winding bridge connects the Long Terril and the Twin Terril, you cycle through a piece of industrial heritage right in the heart of nature.

From the bridge, you look out over the water. On one side stretches the Lanklaarderbos, on the other, Terhills Beach invites you with its surprisingly southern atmosphere. Hop off your bike for a moment and take in this unique setting. And yes… maybe a quick photo for the family group chat?
