There is nothing more relaxing than an afternoon of cycling with the whole family. When the kids are small, they can enjoy themselves from their seats or the bike trailer, and when they’re older, the variety of the Maasmechelen surroundings, the beautiful stops, and the fantastic views are a guaranteed success. The three trails below are all under 35 km. They’re perfect to do with the kids provided you have a few fun stops.

Untapped cycling pleasure

This 34 km trail is slightly undulating and takes you through woods, heathland, along the water, and over the heath bridge. From Terhills, you cycle through the Garden District to the Mechelse Heide and on to the beautiful water features in the Kikbeek Spring Valley. As the icing on the cake, you also pass Oud-Rekem, the most beautiful village in Flanders and one of the MaasMajestic stops. This varied and invigorating cycling tour is a must!

Recreational family route

This is the perfect cycling route for those who prefer to stay under 15 km. This loop of 13.8 km takes you past the following popular attractions: Cycling through Heathland, the Mechelse Heide, and the Kikbeek Spring Valley. You’ll also pass some nice picnic benches where you can stop for a break with an idyllic view. The Mechelse Heide gateway serves as the starting point. There is plenty of parking here.

Leut, De Wissen, and the Kruinenpad

This 32.2 km route takes you to Stokkem, De Wissen, the canal, and the Kruinenpad. Start in the beautiful Maas village of Leut. The history of Leut is largely linked to the history of Vilain Castle, which dominates the village centre. A stately avenue connects the village square with the castle. The combination of culture and nature makes this route a pearl to explore even with the kids.
