1. Fishing Ponds in Maasmechelen
You get access to the fishing ponds in Maasmechelen (except for trout pond De Pelikaan) with a fishing permit. A fishing permit can be requested from the listed contact persons of the different fishing clubs. Attention: there is a limitation on the number of fishing permits per year. 2. Flemish Public Waters
The Maas and Zuid-Willemsvaart
Almost 70,000 anglers cast their lines in Flemish public waters: over 18,000 ha of fishing pleasure for young and old. The Agency for Nature and Forests manages all these activities.
Strict legislation ensures that not every fisherman can act at will and protects a healthy balance in the fish stock. Anyone who wants to fish must not only respect this legislation but also be in possession of an annual permit: the fishing permit (visverlof).
A sustainable fisheries policy protects natural fish stocks and their habitat so that future generations can also enjoy a varied fish population and healthy fishing waters.
The fishing permits for sport anglers grant access to fishing in internal waters, with the exception of ponds, fishing ponds, reservoirs, ditches, or canals, when the water flow to public waterways is naturally interrupted, i.e., when the fish can no longer move between public waterways and internal waters.
