"Maasmechelen is full of adventures – some big, some small."
But one thing’s for sure: you simply can’t miss them. Literally. In the west, you’ve got the Hoge Kempen National Park, where narrow forest and heath trails guide you through nature — perfect for hiking and biking. To the east lies the RivierPark Maasvallei, ideal for scenic cycling or chasing adrenaline on the water.
Luckily, I don’t have to choose — I enjoy both. A few years ago, I “borrowed” my parents’ kayak, and now you’ll sometimes spot me battling the current on the Meuse. The higher the water, the more exciting the ride — and usually, the colder too. I once braved the Meuse in January. Yes, it was freezing, but the experience? Unforgettable. Of course, I wore a wetsuit — safety first.
The narrow forest paths surprise me every single time. Just this week, I was mountain biking through the ups and downs of Terhills — stunning route. I give myself the freedom to follow new paths and discover unexpected places. Same when I go running: just go, and let surprises come your way. I can promise you: you'll find the most beautiful hidden spots.
"We often look too far, while there’s so much to discover close to home."
And the beauty of it all? I completely unwind during these kinds of activities. It makes perfect sense. On one hand, you’re greeted by the fresh air, birdsong, and sometimes even deer. On the other, it's the focus that adventure demands.
Because believe me — when you’re closely tailing someone down a steep MTB descent, you’re not thinking about work or chores. You’re completely in that moment. It’s magical.
That’s exactly what I aim to spark with every activity I organize through E-adventure: to create that moment when people forget everyday life and simply enjoy the experience. And Maasmechelen is the perfect backdrop for that. As I said earlier, adventure is everywhere here, and I love tapping into that.
I create activities that help both locals and visitors discover our region in a fun way. When I send people off on E-scooter tours, you should see them when they come back — so enthusiastic:
"We saw this! We passed by that!"
I always hear the most incredible stories. And best of all: they come back fully recharged.
That’s what adventure does to you. Every single time.
