Maasmechelen has many producers of local products, who are only too happy to introduce you to their products.

This local beer has already won several international awards. Taste a ‘Prion des Fleurs’ made with heather honey, or perhaps a gin made with juniper berries from the Mechelse Heide? Taste these and other delicious Kompel beers at one of Maasmechelen’s pubs, restaurants and hotels. Some beers are also available from Visit Maasmechelen. Great as a souvenir, or gift for the people back home.

Book a Kompel tour for your family or group. First explore the National Park (Terhills) with a nature guide, and round off the day with a Kompel beer-tasting session. See the National Park website for more information.

B-Art Chocolates

Bart Janssen is a Maasmechelen chocolatier of international repute. His red, chocolate lady’s shoe, filled with his own pralines, created a stir as far away as China. His shop is well worth a look during your visit to Maasmechelen.

Choose unprocessed honey made by the local beekeeper. This honey tastes delicious and contains local pollen, which is beneficial for people suffering from allergies or hay fever. Due to the proximity of the Mechelse Heide, heather honey is also periodically available from Visit Maasmechelen.

In Maasmechelen, winemaker ‘Wijnbouw Vilain XIIII’ is busy creating a variety of locally produced wines. These wines from the Maas village of Leut are available from Visit Maasmechelen, and make the perfect gift for yourself or someone else.

The Bakery

Here, you are completely immersed in the world of bread, cakes and pastries. This is no sterile factory, but an open, glass house, which allows you to follow the entire production process from flour to bread. The spacious shop is surrounded by glass walls, behind which you can see the bakers and pâtissiers of ‘The Bakery’ at work. Your full range of senses will be stimulated by the many flavours, smells, colours and aromas!

And discover their coffee bar, named ‘TWO OH FIVE’, on the first floor. Here, trained baristas magically produce delicious speciality coffees.

At ‘The Bakery’ you can follow workshops to learn to bake bread, muffins, or the real ‘Limburg pie’!
