The purple loop through the Mechelse Heide is a substantial loop of about 8.5 km through heavily wooded areas.
Naturally, you will pass through the beautiful Mechelse Heide, which hits its peak in August and September, on this hike. The heather is in full purple bloom during these months, offering you picturesque views.
You’ll also hike past the old Eisden railway station, the final station on the Coal Line. The last coal train departed from here in 1987.
This hike leads you over mostly unpaved, hilly paths. There are also stairs in some places.
Whoever ventures on this tough trek through the heathlands should wear sturdy hiking boots.
