If you want to take a break during the day with a short walk or incorporate the varied landscape of Maasmechelen into your daily schedule, a short-distance walk is what you're looking for. From historic trails to enjoying an incredible panorama, Maasmechelen has it all. Below you'll find information about some of our short-distance walks.

1. Terhills - Green Loop (3.6 km)

 

The Green Loop takes you to the top of the spoil heap, where you can enjoy an impressive panorama of the Hoge Kempen National Park, the Eisden Garden District, and even parts of the Netherlands. The route features pleasant rest and picnic spots along the way. On your return, the little ones can have fun in the play area while parents enjoy a refreshment on the terrace of the National Park Visitor Center.

 

2. Mechelse Heide - Blue Loop (5.3 km)

 

This beautiful route gradually takes you up in elevation. When you reach 104 meters above sea level, you will be at the highest walking point of the Hoge Kempen National Park. You’ll find yourself in a peaceful heathland with views of the former sand and gravel quarry and the extensive forests of our region.

 

3. Rivierpark Maasvallei - Green Walking Loop (3.0 km)

 

If you want to take a short walk in Rivierpark Maasvallei, the Green Walking Loop is your route. You will discover the picturesque village of Leut, its monumental castle, and then experience the green landscapes along the Maas River with exceptional tree species.

 

4. Heritage Walk Eisden-Tuinwijk (5.0 km)

 

The history of Eisden-Tuinwijk dates back over 100 years. During this short walk, you can use the Heritage App, which takes you through the story of the coal mine. As you stroll through the streets of the Garden District, you’ll experience the rich history of Eisden-Tuinwijk through photos and video clips.
