If you want to experience natural surroundings with your kids, the Mechelse Heide is the right place for you! Here is a summary of a few fun activities that are suitable for your little MaasMonsters.

MaasMauve Heather Days

In the month of August, parents and their children can go on a hike, with a ranger, in the Mechelse Heide. If you want to be a junior ranger, or if you are a budding artist, make sure you sign up for these free activities!

Spider Walk (Spinnenwandeling)

The spider walk is a ‘Boekstappers’ walk. These are short walks with additional listening games or play tasks linked to a picture book. Ideal for a family excursion.

Kids’ Safari (Kidsafari)

Follow the Zandloperpad in an anti-clockwise direction, and look for the QR codes on the wooden poles. Scan all 4 of them, using a smartphone or tablet, and learn all about the Big 4 of our kids’ safari. Who knows, maybe a lion (cub) is lurking under a tree?

B’Oscars

Maybe you’ll win the ‘B’Oscars’ prize, with these sign-posted walks of 3.5 - 5 km in the National Park. Together with your ‘B’Oscars’ booklet, set off to crack the code and receive your reward. Will you take on the role of a shepherd?

You will need: B’Oscars booklet (€ 2) and the IZI Travel App.

‘Beestige Boelbos’ (animal-themed play area)

In this woodland play area, children and parents discover the animals of the National Park. Children are led from one adventurous discovery to another. There’s a fox stalk, a snake slither, a toad leap, and much more. Close by is the play dune (speelduin), with a water game and a climbing tree to make the fun complete.

Mechelse Heide – Green Loop (Groene Lus)

This 3.1 km route leads you through the Mechelse Heide (Mechelen Heathland). The route surface is mostly unpaved, as it runs through woodland. A wonderful route for introducing kids to Belgium’s only National Park.

Recreational family bike ride

This recreational family route is perfect for the whole family. You cycle in a small circle through the Mechelse Heide, passing highlights such ‘Fietsen door de Heide’ (‘Cycle through the Heath’) the Mechelse Heide (Mechelen Heathland) and the Vallei van de Kikbeekbron (Kikbeekbron Valley). A short route with fun places of interest, and various stops for you to enjoy the beautiful view, and perhaps a picnic.
