Wannes Smeets told us he first discovered the Swiss-Trac in Austria.
He said: “The dream of bringing a Swiss-Trac rental system here was born there in Austria. That dream became reality thanks to several valuable partnerships. Amazing, right?”

Together with the Hoge Kempen National Park and the municipality of Maasmechelen, we brought the very first Swiss-Trac rental system to Belgium — and yes, it's a first for the entire Benelux. These wheelchair tow devices are a major asset, not only for people who use wheelchairs, but also for those with limited mobility.
They can handle virtually any terrain.

We started with a trial phase. During that time, we looked for the ideal area to create a dedicated route. I don’t need to tell you that Maasmechelen is packed with beautiful walking trails. At first, we thought of the Mechelse Heide: endless paths and a highly varied landscape. But eventually, we shifted our focus to Terhills, the main gateway to Hoge Kempen National Park. A unique hiking area — topped off by a stunning visitor center — the perfect place to offer Swiss-Tracs for rent.

And there it was — a perfect match.

"Here, we could make use of existing walking trails that were previously completely inaccessible to wheelchair users."

Together with the park rangers, we mapped out a route that takes you all the way to the top of the spoil heap. When you book a Swiss-Trac, you choose a time slot of two or four hours, and you head out with a ranger. As you walk together, the ranger shares exciting stories about the local flora, fauna, and history.
If you’re already experienced with the Swiss-Trac, you can explore on your own. You’ll enjoy narrow forest trails, take in views of the pond, and then suddenly… you're standing on the panoramic viewpoint of the Lange Terril. The view over the National Park stretches endlessly. Breathtaking!

I'm proud we could make this happen.

"The Swiss-Tracs are truly unique — and we’re proud to showcase them!"
It’s simply fun.

I still remember the first time I hiked through the mountains with my daughter. A dream come true. And now, we can help make that dream a reality for others — right here in our own nature. This is only the beginning, I’m sure of it.

"Just because I use a wheelchair doesn’t mean I’m not adventurous!"
Quite the opposite — I love being outside and I’m always open to finding new ways to explore. Just watch these videos: that’s me last week on a brand new mountain handbike. See? The possibilities are endless. Unfortunately, they’re not always available, simply because people don’t know about them. I’m committed to changing that.
