The Hoge Kempen National Park contains over 12,742 hectares of managed and protected woodland and heathland areas. The unspoilt nature park extends across the municipalities of As, Bilzen, Bree, Dilsen-Stokkem, Genk, Lanaken, Maaseik, Maasmechelen, Oudsbergen and Zutendaal.

Enormous pine forests are interspersed with purple-blooming heathland. Large bodies of water are the silent witnesses of a thriving gravel and sand mining industry. Hilltops provide breath-taking views for you to enjoy. This scenic setting is inhabited by many rare and special animals.

With the Mechelse Heide and Terhills, Maasmechelen has as many as two entrance gates to the National Park on its territory. Roam through sunlit fields of heather, lose yourself in shady woods, or gaze at endless vistas. Your walk or bike ride starts at the entrance gates, or at one of the pickup places.

Information about all the entrance gates to the Hoge Kempen National Park can be found at www.Nationalparkhogekempen.be
